all we need is love...
This week's music selection comes to you via the 119 songs currently in my iTunes collection that somehow come up when I seach the word Love...
1. She Will Be Loved - Maroon 5, Songs about Jane.
2. I Love My Car - Belle & Sebastian, Push Barman to Open Old Wounds.
3. Better Days - Goo Goo Dolls, Let Love In.
4. Hurts to Love You - Philosopher Kings, One Night Stand. (These boys, oh, these boys exude sex when they're on stage...I've seen them live a few times, and they never disappoint...)
5. Lovers in a Dangerous Time (live) - Barenaked Ladies, Peace Songs.
6. Float On - Modest Mouse, Good News for People Who Love Bad News. (So not a love song, which was the intent of this week's random 10, however, it is one of my favourite songs...)
7. Lover Lay Down - Dave Matthews Band, Under the Table and Dreaming.
8. No Reason To Cry Out Your Eyes (on the highway tonight) - Hawksley Workman, Lover/Fighter. ("People like us, not sure where we're going..." I love this man, who puts on one of the most fascinating live shows I've ever seen. His rambles, completely spontaneous and wildly entertaining between his songs are worth the price of admission alone, the music and poetry of his lyrics only secondary...)
9. The Origin of Love - Rufus Wainwright, Wig in a Box. (This song makes me shiver each time I hear it: "The last time I saw you, we'd just split in two. You were looking at me, and I was looking at you. You had a way so familiar that I could not recognize 'cuz you had blood on your face, and I had blood in my eyes. But I could swear by your expression that the pain down in your soul was the same as the pain down in mine... That's the pain, cuts a straight line down through the heart, and we call it love. So we wrapped our arms around each other, tried to shove ourselves back together, we were making love. It was a cold, dark evening a long time ago when by the mighty hand of Jove, it was a sad story how we became lonely two-legged creatures, the story, the origin of love...")
10. I Love You/Messenger - Jeff Martin, Live in Australia Bootleg. (How do I love Jeff Martin, let me count the ways... Oh such a sexy, sexy man. With a beautiful, haunting voice. These are two gorgeous songs, a gorgeous arrangement, sung by a gorgous man... If it wasn't for the crowd voices in the background - seriously, who talks through a performance as good as this? - I'd consider using this as 'our song' at our wedding, if the boy ever does propose, that is. Daniel Lanois, who wrote both songs, does a nice enough version, but it's just not the same...)
